university in Ukraine.

Donetsk State University of Economy and Trade has a long history. Stages of its formation clearly show the periods of modern history of Ukraine. University as an institution originates from the higher cooperative instructional courses, which functioned under the Central Ukrainian Cooperative Committee in the fall of 1917. On the basis of these courses in January 1920 on the initiative of Professor M.I.Tugan-Baranovsky was created by Ukrainian Cooperative Institute.

Mikhail Ivanovich Tugan-Baranovsky - an outstanding scientist and an economist of world renown, statesman and public figure of Ukraine the period of struggle for national liberation and self-determination and statehood rebirth after the February 1917 revolution in Russia and the fall of the autocracy. Kharkov Institute of planned consumer cooperatives in the 1933-1934 academic year, has teamed up with the Kiev Institute of Co-operative with the location in the city of Kharkiv and was renamed the Ukrainian Institute of Consumer Cooperatives in the beginning of the 1935-1936 school year. In the merged institution called Voronezh Cooperative Institute and State University Voroshilovgradsky catering.

However, the existence of two homogeneous in Kharkov and small institutions themselves are not justified. Therefore, in the 1935-1936 academic year, in accordance with the decision of the government, existing separately Ukrainian Institute of Government Commerce and the Kharkiv Institute of Consumer Cooperatives were combined and the basis for developing the Ukrainian Institute of Soviet Trade (renamed in 1940 in Kharkov Institute of Soviet Trade).

Since the beginning of World War II classes at the institute is temporarily stopped, and the building was given over to the hospital. During the occupation of the institute was ransacked, and its facilities destroyed during the bombing. After the liberation of Kharkov from the German invaders in 1943, trained at the Kharkov Institute of Soviet Trade resumed. In June 1959 the Council of Ministers adopted a decision to shift from the Institute of Kharkov in the city and renamed it Stalino in Stalin's Institute of Soviet Trade. Such a decision of the Government was due to the objective necessity of Donbass in the creation of new educational institutions.
