HEALTHY LIFE MOTIVATION AS A
PREREQUISITE FOR STUDENTS’ HEALTH SAVING
The problem of health-saving
technologies is now very important as for the last years under the
intensification of education and the increasing requirements to students the
health of students has become much worse. A lot of them enter universities
unprepared for study from the point of view of their psycho-physical
development. Under the conditions of systematic overload they either become
slow students or lose their health. Constant state of being unsuccessful or
waiting for failure worsens behavior and psychological deviations and results
in asocial behavior. Familiarizing students with the problem of health saving
implies, first of all, the process of personal socialization and the creation
of high level of mental rest. Health
promoting educational system is to take into account basic needs of students. In
this case, students will be given comfortable conditions for their development,
for formation of positive mood and positive relation to educational process and
behavior norms. Within the framework of Health Saving Concept the following
problems are very important: students’
health needs upbringing, the formation of scientific understanding of healthy
lifestyle, and the development of students’ individual healthy lifestyles. The
solution of the given problems forms the basis of modern education . The idea
of health-saving pedagogy is not new. V.
Sukhomlinsky and J. Korchak mentioned it in their works – “Medical Pedagogy”
and “Educating Therapy”, respectively.
According to V. Kolbanov, nowadays
health saving begins with the development and realization of methodologically
unified but personally differentiated educational programs of personal
self-actualization with the help of healthy life. The description of the
educational system aimed at health-saving is based on the principle of Nature
Conformity of J.A. Komensky and the system of Life Pedagogy as a modern variant
of the Nature Conformity Principle. The given system is to give knowledge of
different health aspects and to help students develop their individual
health-saving strategies as the basis for health need. The objective of
educational process participants for students’ health saving is the awareness
of individual needs and development peculiarities for the purpose of the
individual healthy lifestyle creation. It can be gained by introducing
psychological and pedagogical, medical and biological, and ecological education
and upbringing under the system of students’ healthy lifestyle creation.
While developing main aspects of
health saving pedagogy the following questions require analyzing and practical
applying: 1) individual’s biological and social ratio due to the problems of
education and healthy lifestyle formation; 2) ontogenesis phases heterogeneity
and critical periods of development; 3) individual typological changeability at
the level of organism or individuality; 4) role of motivation for individuality
formation and treating health as spiritual and biological value; 5)
introduction of the health state evaluation methodology.
People
health is not defined as naturally-given:
it has not only objective but also subjective prerequisites – it is
formed, strengthened, and, unfortunately, lost .
Health
promotion programs in the modern system of education taking into account main
health-saving principles may lead to effective results such as approbation of
health-saving educational technologies; introduction of author’s health
promotion educational programs formed on the basis of preventive ideas;
development of hygienic requirements to the organization of educational process
taking into account psycho-physiological peculiarities of students; prevention
of smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction, and sexual deviation; individual
approach to physical culture favoring the need for doing sports. All these are
characteristic for the important process of students’ health formation. At the
same time, health motivation is to be formed not only with the help of
education but also with the elements of applied valeology using modern
diagnostic and health-improving means.
The substantial component of
health-saving technologies implies individual approach to students taking into
account, on the one hand, the personality of students and social factors of
their developments, and, on the other hand, the state of their higher mental
functions.
In the
opinion of different scholars and teachers, healthy lifestyle motivation is an
important and necessary condition for students’ health saving. But the question
of its methods and its motivation formation requires careful studying.
Health
improvement by means of education is to begin with the improvement of education
itself that requires radical transformations (as opposed to modern approach) on
the basis of local transformations through the introduction of special
courses giving general knowledge of
health saving but not forming deliberate desire to be healthy and apply
individual health improving programs.
Motivation
for healthy lifestyle and using health-saving technologies can be based on the
realization of personal importance, health value and need, and disease
prevention. Modern system of education is impossible without students’ and
teachers’ motivation for healthy lifestyle.
