Influence of "Licorice oil" on immunologic
indeces in breast cancer
In publication the
information about the possibilities of immunocorrection in cancer diseases,
particularly in breast cancer by vegetable oils isn't sufficient. There no any
complex approach to the study of effect of immunomodulator on the immune system
of oncologic patients.
The purpose of
investigation – the study of the influence of "Licorice oil" on
immunologic indeces of periferial blood and regional lymph nodes in unadequate
therapy in patients with breast cancer.
119 womans with
breast cancer aged 27 to 89, who were treated oncology department of the Centre
of Clinical medicine West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov state medical academy in
2004-2006 were includedinto the investigation.
The control group consisted of 49
women who were treted according to the standart scheme of treatment of breast
cancer. The main group consisted of 52 patients who were treted according to
the standart scheme of treatment with addition of "Licorice oil" in
dose of 5 ml 3 times a day before the operation and at early post-operative
period. The comparative group consisted
of 18 patients, whom the stimulation of leucopoiesis according to traditional
scheme (T- aktivin) was carried out.
The indeces of
celluar link of immunity: CD3, CD 4, CD 8, CD16; humoral link – CD20, IgA, IgM,
IgG; the functional activity T- and B- limphocytes and phagocytes were
determined in peripheral blood.
For determination of
functional state of lymph nodes the method of local hemolysis was used. This
method allows to estimate the indices of total amount of lymphoid cells (TALC),
the number of alive (ALC) and functionally active (antibody forming) cells
(AFC).
The lymph nodes
damaged by metastastic tumorous process (n=64), had a number of peculiarities marked in the sharp decrease
of the number of alive lymphoid cells by 7 times, the number of functionally
active cells were very rare (AFC) chade 1,24±0,39). The lymph nodes undamaged
by metastasis (n=293) had a number peculiaritie that depended on the patients
age and characteristics of tumorous process and carried out pre-operative
methods of treatment.
During the study of
immunity cellular link in patients with breast cancer the immunologic imbalans
with suprresive deviation was revealed. So the index CD 4+ was 80% of the norm,
CD 8+ 130% (p<0,05). CD 16 was 86,7% of the norm (p=0,07). Immunosupression
is manifested of the number of citotoxical cells and increase of number of
supressive cells that is manifested by decrease of the immunoregulated index of suppresion to 1,26.
The use
"Licorice oil" reliably increases the total amount of T- lymphocytes
and leads to the decrease of immunologic imbalance that is manifested in the
increase of IRI suppression to 1,32 (p=0,03), decreases the high level of
immunoglobullin G. At regional level, the use of "Licorice oil" caused the increase of total amount of
LC in lymph node by 62%, the amount of alive LC by 2 times, percent of
viability by 23,5%, the number of AFC by 48%.
The use of oil extract allowed to decrease haemotologic disturbance,
caused by the oncologic process course (by 4.5%) and by used chemoradiation
methods of treatment (by 28%). The use of traditional leucostimulation in
comparative group stopped leukopenia nevertheless the total rate of
haemotologic complications didn't decrease. The use of "Licorice oil"
by 30% decreased the rate of side effects in the main group caused by
chemiotherapy and tumorous process bringing the level of haemoglobin and
leucocytes to the norm.
In comparative
estimation of the action of "Licorice oil" on immunologic indeces of
blood and lymph nodes, more marked immunomodulating action at regional level is
noted. The change degree of immunofunctional state at regional level is higher
as just regional lymph nodes in the first place have to meet with progression
of oncologic diseases and to the natural filter on the way of dissemination of
tumorous process.
Thus in patients
with breast cancer the decrease of immunofunctional state of regional lymph
nodes was revealed which was aggravated under the influence of preoperative chemoradiation therapy. The
use "Licorice oil" increases immunofunctional indices of regional lymph nodes and decreases imbalans
of subpopulation of lymphocytes in peripherial blood. Complementary
phytotherapy by "Licorice oil" allows to leveling the
immunosuppresive action of unadequate indeces of regional lymph nodes.
On the basis of
received results it is recommended to monitor immunologic indices of cellular,
humoral links of immune, phagocytosis and immunofunctional state of regional
lymph nodes to all patients with breast
cancer; it is recommended to include "Licorice oil" phytopreparation
into the complex unadequate therapy of patients with breast cancer in dose of 5
ml 3 times a day.
