MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN EDUCATION
Multimedia
is modern computer information technology which allows uniting texts, sounds,
scenes, graphic images and cartooning in the computer system. Multimedia is a sum of technologies that
allows a computer to enter, to work up, to keep, to transfer and display such
things as a text, graphics, cartoon, digitized motionless scenes, video, sound
and speech.
Multimedia
technologies are the ways of preparation the electronic documents including
visual audio effects and multiprogramming the different situations under
uniting control of interactive software securing (M. Kirmayer).
These
two definitions of multimedia technologies seem to be the most successful
reflecting the gist of the concept – multimedia (many surrounded) technologies
– emphasizing that multimedia technology is at first the technology of
preparation and presentation the information on the screen of the computer.
Multimedia
technologies are fully gone in the conception of development of computer
training technology which was emphasized in the first definition. That’s why we
think that the combination of multimedia technology teaching is not correct and
it is often used in the context of new educational technology. It should be
emphasized that multimedia technologies have the same theoretical fundamentals
as the technologies of computer training. It will be true to consider the
multimedia computer technology training as a modern phase of technology
development of computer training using the didactic possibilities of modern
computer, new technologies of programming and instrumental surroundings for the
development of computer means of training.
It is
considered that the concept of the memory organization “MEMEX” suggested by
American scientist Vanniver Bush in 1945 is the ideal premises of technology
multimedia origin. It provided for the search of information in accordance with
its semantic content rather than formal features (on order of numbers, indexes,
or alphabet). This idea has found its use and computer realization first in the
system of hypertext (the system of working with the combination of text
materials), and then in hypermedia (the system working with the combination of
graphics, sound, video and cartoon) and then in multimedia combining these two systems
altogether.
We
shall consider the main peculiarities and possibilities of usage the multimedia
technologies in teaching for the development of computer means of teaching and
communication.
Drawing
7 – The possibilities and problems of multimedia technologies.
Multimedia
technologies are widely used in advertising business for the development of
computer plays. Rich didactic possibilities of multimedia technologies are used
for the making of electronic texts and other materials of teaching character as
we have already said – the computer means of teaching.
It is
usually understood that the means of multimedia are the complex of instrumental
and programming means allowing the user to communicate with a computer using
the other things such as graphics, hypertexts, sound, cartoon and video. The
appearance of multimedia systems certainly make revolutionary changes in such
sphere as education, computer training and in many spheres of professional
activity, science, art, in computer plays and etc.
How can
we use the means of multimedia technologies for the development of teaching
methodical materials? Where and in what correlation is it possible to enter the
different multimedia elements in contrast with usual text? Where are the usage
limits of multimedia insertions in the document, the breach of which can lead
to the reduction of the working capacity of pupils and effectiveness of the
work? These are the serious questions motivated answers of which allow to avoid
the firework in education and to prepare effective methodical text materials.
All these questions are not studied enough yet.
