Education
has seen great changes from days of paper textbooks and bricks and mortar
classrooms. Students make up a significant part of the Internet users, mobile
communications, as well as consumers of various products of multimedia. Online
education has become very popular. Despite this,
the institutions continue to find it difficult to offer attractive and
affordable online training opportunities. One of the ways to solve the problem
is to use online training video.
Online video has become an increasingly important part of the
educational environment, because of its considerable impact on the audience.
The combination of social networking, online video and mobile technologies make
online learning easy and affordable.
The
role of video-supported training is to reinforce learning, make students to
feel visually–stimulated, hold student’s attention better than a text, help
them catch things they missed in class and encourage peer–to–peer learning and
collaboration.
One of the cloud-based online video learning platforms to create a video
library for
education and training is MediaCore. Under the slogan "Change training
using online video," it offers the possibility of practical implementation
of video-based learning, making it possible to “learn at any time, any place
and on any device” [1].
For education, MediaCore provides the possibilities to:
·
browse video or audio added to the CMS from any
device, such as an Android, iPhone, iPad, or any desktop browser;
·
easily manage the media library through a good
administrative interface;
·
upload content directly to your site (an admin
review system is baked in, making moderation simple and easy);
·
add video from YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, Amazon
S3, or any server; encode video with the help of handy automated encoding
plugin;
· track
comments, views, and likes on published video and audio (the CMS automatically
ranks the most popular items);
· comment,
embed, or share video and audio with your friends through the Twitter and
Facebook sharing features [2].
Providing
a free pricing plan for teachers, it also makes possible to use MediaCore to
its fullest in the classroom.
The
developers are working on making it possible to upload videos of classroom
lectures and conference seminars to the MediaCore cloud where they can be
easily accessed by those wanting to review content later.
In
September 2012, MediaCore Technologies Inc. was announced the winner of the
12th annual BCIC-New Ventures Competition in Vancouver and awarded $100,000 top
prize [3].
Online
video makes it is possible for teachers within a department to create a bank of
online videos explaining key concepts and topics for students to access at any
time. It’s a student-centered, personalized way of teaching and learning [4].
